Baking your own pizza at home is fun and inexpensive, and you can put anything you want on your pizza. You tend to get the best results when baking pizza in a stoneware pizza pan. This is because it keeps the heat even and prevents your pizza from getting watery at the bottom of the pan. Here we will show you how to clean a stoneware pizza pan so that it can be used for a long time.

In addition, if your oven has a self-cleaning program that uses heat cleaning(i.e. pyrolysis), you can simply clean the pizza pan in the oven next time. This goes effectively removes any crusty residue on the pan.

What are stoneware pizza pans made of?

Most pizza pans are made of fire-resistant clay, a fire-resistant, man-made rock-like material. This material prevents stoneware pizza pans from breaking during the heating process. On the other hand, the porcelain enamel on the surface of the stoneware makes the crusted residue easier to clean. Some people, however, prefer to use cast iron pans for baking pizzas. But this is a matter of taste – so we won’t interfere.

In Becasaltd, you will find your favorite stoneware pizza pan.

What to look for when baking with a stoneware pizza pan?

To make your pizza pan easier to clean, first preheat the pizza pan properly. First, preheat your oven to 250 degrees Celsius for 10 minutes, then place the pizza pan in the oven for 45 minutes. If you place the pizza dough directly on the hot pan, it will immediately form a crispy crust. This is why nothing sticks to the stoneware pan.

On the other hand, you must be careful of pizza dough with holes in it. This is because the sauce and cheese mixture on the pizza will burn quickly and leave stains on the pizza pan. But the good news is that these stains just look unsightly and are not a health hazard. High heat can completely remove the bacteria from the pizza pan.

If the sauce and cheese are burnt on the pizza stone, you should remove them mechanically, without using a lot of water.

How to remove the burnt residue on the pizza pan?

  • First, let the pizza pan cool slowly.
  • Then take it out of the oven and gently scrape off the burnt residue. A kitchen scraper, spatula, or metal-ceramic stove top cleaner will help.
  • If you want to remove badly burned stains, you can first soak the pizza pan in water for 20-30 minutes. Then use a sponge wipe for careful cleaning.
  • Finally, wipe the pizza pan with a slightly damp kitchen towel.

Note: Stoneware usually has a porcelain enamel attached to the surface so you can also clean them with a brush under running water.

Can you clean a stoneware pizza pan with detergent?

Absolutely, you can use detergent appropriately when cleaning stoneware pizza pans. This will make it easier to remove the crusted residue from the surface. Once the residue is removed, it can be put in the dishwasher for cleaning.
